Restless Leg During Pregnancy-What Finally Worked For Me

Restless leg syndrome at any time just stinks. All you want to do is sleep, but your legs won’t let you! Restless leg during pregnancy is even worse because it’s just one more thing to add to all the other things that stink. So, it double-stinks.

During my last pregnancy I was SO desperate to find a remedy that would help my poor legs. I looked on Pinterest for hours and I read that certain essential oils could help. I’m a huge fan of essential oils, but they didn’t help me very much. They do work for some people, though, so you may want to check them out.

Another “home remedy” I tried, and I’m very embarrassed to admit this, is the “Put a Bar of Soap Under Your Sheets” remedy… (insert silence here)…..


Look, in all seriousness, does anyone know anything about this?? Rooster thought I was insane when he saw me pull up the fitted sheet & place a bar of Dove where my feet would be. I should have been ashamed of myself. If there is any truth to this voodoo, please let me know!

Okay. So I get restless leg some time after I roll into the 3rd trimester…when I’m huge & super uncomfortable, thank you very much. I don’t even look forward to sleeping because I know what’s going to start up right after I get close to drifting off into my much-needed beauty sleep. But—I am determined to beat it this time.

One of the reasons some pregnant women experience restless leg is because they’re deficient in the very much-needed mineral, magnesium.

In my post about morning sickness, which you can read here, I talk about how this mineral deficiency can also worsen morning sickness. Taking a magnesium supplement regularly months prior to getting pregnant might very well help, but if you’re too late for that (whoops), magnesium lotion or magnesium oil may become your best friend during those awful nights.

I’m currently in my 2nd trimester, so I haven’t had any pregnancy restless leg yet, but not too long ago, I did have it due to a side effect of taking medication for nausea.

As soon as I felt that strange sensation in my legs, I went straight to the bathroom and grabbed my magnesium lotion, what I hoped would be my bff for the night. Minutes after slathering my legs from the knees down, my legs were as calm as cucumbers.

This lotion is invited to my next birthday party.

SoO, so far, I’m definitely a fan of this product, which I bought on Amazon. It’s rather thick, so you might like the oil better, but I’ve not tried it yet. If you have tried the oil, please let me know what you think. And if you have any more suggestions for this joyous side effect, please comment below!
